Love you, 2009-10

So, here goes my very first blog! What better topic than the past year that has taught me so much in life and has seen me mature as a person.

Summers in Chennai have always relentless bathing experiences for the inmates of my dear forested IIT Madras campus. This one was especially terrible since I was serving an extension for completing my project. Cursing the heat, my professor, and the global economic recession, days and nights seemed to move at a snail's pace. After slogging it out for the better part of May and June, I managed to get my guide's "No Objection Certificate" to peace. Ahh, the relief!

After graduating from IITM, I joined my friend in his startup venture, in Delhi. My friends and relatives had advised me to exercise caution in Delhi, saying that it was easy for a southie to get cheated over there. Initially i was put up somewhere in the outskirts of Noida, along with my colleague, Raj. A great character, Raj practically guided me through most aspects of my life over the initial days, from helping me brush up on my hindi to taking me to office which was located in far away, but glamorous South Delhi.

Working in the startup was pure fun! My boss was very particular that we enjoyed our work and was very lenient with us. My lovely female friend ensured that I dint miss out on 'the delhi experience' and took me to all the exciting eating joints nearby. At work, apart from making colorful marketing brochures, I also attended various client meetings. Conversations were often in Hindi, which seemed daunting at first! But, soon I got used to life in Delhi. The plush malls in downtown Saket, Defence Colony market , Greater Kailash etc were our favourite hang-out places. Bike trips to Chandni Chowk and Karol Bagh were singular experiences in that they were just amazing!

So far, so good! But then, reality strikes. I had to move on and take up a better job soon. So I quit my job, wrote CAT and started applying for new jobs! If there's something more difficult than finding your dream job, its finding your dream job during recession! The job search ended when i accepted an offer from an elec firm in Namma Bengaluru which is differentiated by the fact that there is nothing of great interest to be said about it! But hey, good pay, good work hours and good friends around you maketh a good life; and that was what my job offered! To end the financial year on a great note, IIM's A,B and C called me for personal interviews. After clearing the IIM-C interview, I am all set to spend the best two years of my life in the spectacular Joka campus. Thank you 2009-10, you have been splendid!

Adios Amigos!
